Laser Therapy For
Toenail Fungus
Noveon Podiatric Laser Toenail Treatment - Toenail Renewal is now an option!
Until recently, if you had toenail fungus, options to treat the disease were limited and often unsuccessful. But with laser therapy, the toenails you remember may be yours again. After laser treatment, patients tell us that after several months, they can wear sandals they haven’t felt comfortable wearing for years. The physicians at the Hartford Podiatry Group are pleased to announce the arrival of the Noveon Podiatric Laser.
Nail fungus and treatment options
If you have discolored, brittle or ragged toenails, the cause may be a fungus that grows beneath the nail. Nail fungus is difficult to eradicate because it grows under the nail plate in the nail bed. Topical medications have a low success rate, because unless the nail is removed, it is difficult for them to reach the fungal infection. Oral drug therapy may be effective in 65-75 percent of patients, but there are potential side effects from the medication, including liver toxicity. Today, at the Hartford Podiatry Group, there is a better answer - Laser therapy can penetrate the nail and eliminate the fungus, making it possible for toenails to grow back without discoloration.
The Noveon Podiatric Laser is specifically designed to treat toenail fungus
Treating up to four toes at the same time, our Noveon Podiatric Laser penetrates the nail surface and destroys the fungus, without the unpleasant heat build-up or fumes common with some lasers. In less than a half hour the automatic treatment program is complete and you can resume your day’s activities. There are no restrictions, and no side effects. You are likely to see results in few months as new nail surface grows in to replace the nail discolored by the disease.
The Noveon Podiatric Laser utilizes two specific wavelengths of laser light for advanced microbial destruction. The uniqueness of the Noveon therapy lies in the fact that it harnesses a patented near-infrared photo-inactivation effect to achieve the elimination of bacteria and fungi while preserving healthy tissue. The result of the Noveon therapy is to advance the recovery process with virtually no side effects.

No. Other diseases may cause discoloration. We will determine whether you have toenail fungus before recommending treatment.

The condition is likely to worsen over time if measures are not taken to stop the infection. Pain in your toenails or unpleasant odors may result.

Sometimes a warm tingling sensation occurs. If the warmth causes some discomfort the patient can stop treatment instantly for a period of 10-15 seconds and then resume treatment.
-
The treatment itself can take between 16 and 45 minutes.
-
On average, a toenail will replace itself every 9-12 months. Healthy new growth will be visible within the first 2-3 months as your nails continue to grow following the laser treatment.

For some patients with limited infection one treatment is sufficient. Others may require a second or third treatment for maximum effectiveness.

Insurance companies view nail fungus as a cosmetic condition and therefore not a covered service.

Ingrown Toenail Removal
At Hartford Podiatry Group, many of my patients fear coming in for treatment of an infected ingrown toenail. They come in with excruciating pain and we get to send them home feeling a whole lot better.
An ingrown toenail occurs when a corner of the nail grows into the flesh of the toe, causing redness and swelling, followed by pain and often infection. Ingrown toenails can occur due to improper trimming of the toenail, trauma or genetic factors.
Treatment for ingrown toenails is performed by gently numbing the toe, and then removing the offending corner of the nail. If you have chronic ingrown toenails, we can remove the root in the office to permanently prevent re-growth of the ingrown portion of the nail. Make an appointment today and find ingrown toenail pain relief. Your treatment will be gentle and virtually painless.
